Attempting to live ? Living to be effective?
Now in this place in the world, my standard workweek is 50 hours at work, weekends off (fortunately!), another 2 hours on average each and every night so it adds up. Additionally 40% of my own time spent from the country I begin to question quality of live. Money is good so that's a motivator. I love my job even if it is not that exciting (I'm inside the printing industry). I've a great boss - truly (rare statement originating from me you have to know) and i am flanked by fabulous, young, energetic, motivated and caring colleagues that wants to make change. Couldn't be better right? Well I additionally love my loved ones. Fabulous wife and wonderful mother to our model daughter who is one incidentally and a straight Trainees now finishing her IB. So what is all of this about then?
I'm complaining!
You know what? When I was fired 2 in years past I spent the very best 3 months of my entire life - literally - between jobs. I had cash in the bank - and money inside the notice period. I had to spend only a month to find a great (better) new job therefore i had all the time in the world to concentrate on the things I really like (my children) and also the actions and desires I have been previously so very long pushing off. Every single day, after i awaken each day - and even if my work life's as great when i are already trying to project - I really miss these months another.
Recently i read a blog, a really depressing one. The punch line was something similar to - so why do we work? We are born, go to school, get degrees, get a job and often (well many of us) make enough money in order to cover a month of expenses after which by 65 approximately we retire and on average you will find there's few years until we keel over. That is not an existence - seriously. The blog stopped short there but was sort of arguing that people should all be entrepreneurs. I made a few comments - no response.
But he/she were built with a point. Many of us work to live. We actually don't live to work. We never should but that which you Should do is always to make an effort to change our way of life somehow - like me - to return to the point in life where we felt that life was best, where there would be a healthy balance between work-life, family-life, friends-life etc. to ensure that we obtain the qualities - hopefully that life is about.
You understand me chances are. I'm exactly about change. This is simply not another piece to awake you to think change and do change. No to you (and i also) to get up and take a break and ask - Is this the most effective I will do? - and "is this the life span I want" - can i be at liberty if I, like I'm statistically set being, leave mother nature following the age of retirement (well hopefully not obviously but some do!).
I say no. Don't accept life because it is! You're living your life. No-one is living it for you! Take calculated chances - we all have responsibilities to family, creditors etc. so these chances driven by decisions should be calculated. Maximize possible outcome and mitigate risk. When you can plus you've got the least feel and belief that this, if it turns out well, can change your daily life for that better - well get it done!
Just in case you wonder - I wish to change my entire life. I'd rather not spent 38% of my waking hours working and 21% sleeping (I can't sleep much!). That leaves about 40% time for you to do a few things i love and be with those that I prefer to be around. I like my colleagues however love my family! I would like to change and my plan is to create a web business that may turnaround enough to create a living for my children and that i but allow me to work the times of day and from your places I chose. Status quo is always that I'm about 0.02% there so I have only 99.98% to look but reported by users, the first step is the most difficult one.
Take this as rant from the guy who blows steam or pause for any minute and think: Are you happy? How can you be?
Use a great weekend - and stay with friends and loved ones!
